Research areas

The Nanobiophotonics group at the IPHT addresses molecular plasmonics, dealing with plasmonic effects at hybrid structures of molecules and metal nanostructures. On one hand, this includes the realization of highly defined hybrid structures consisting of individual molecules (such as DNA) and optically active components (such as gold nanoparticles or fluorescent dyes) in order to study optical effects on the single structure level. On the other hand, plasmonic effects are utilized to characterize and sense molecules, ranging from single particle measurements to parallelization using optical approaches, for potential application in multiplexed and paralleled bioanalytics. Research thrusts include:

  • molecular plasmonics
  • LSPR (localized surface plasmon resonance)-based bioanalytics
  • DNA-nanotechnology
  • single metal nanoparticle characterization and manipulation
  • ¬†micro-nano integration

Teaching fields

Dr. Fritzsche is involved in teaching Physical Chemistry as well as Instrumental Analytics for pharmacists.
