• Bean, Satin, ZickZack or Straight:
  An Introduction to using th Embroidery Machine
  8 May 2025, 5-8 p.m., SR1 Abbe Center of Photonics, Albert-Einstein-Str. 6, Jena
  It's all about the embroidery machine at the Lichtwerkstatt! We'll show you how our embroidery machine works, what you need to look out for and how you can design chic motifs on the computer and apply them to textiles in no time at all - without any prior knowledge. Whether you already have creative ideas in mind or just want to have a taster: come along, try it out and be inspired. Technology meets craftsmanship and is fun!
  
  
• From Idea to Material: 3D Printing for Beginners

  In this workshop, we will show you how to turn an idea into a real object - layer by layer! You will not only learn the basics of 3D printing, but also how to design your own 3D models and customise existing files. With practical tips on the software and direct experimentation on the printer, it's easy to get started.   Discover the world of laser cutting and make your ideas shine! In our workshop, you will learn how to work precisely and creatively with the laser cutter - from the digital template to the finished workpiece. • Craftmanship meets Hightech :
  First Steps to Woodworking with the Shaper Origin
  12. June 2025, 17-20 Uhr, SR1 Abbe Center of Photonics, Albert-Einstein-Str. 6, Jena
  Do you want to work with millimetre precision, implement your own projects and experience digital technology hands-on? Then this workshop is for you! With the Shaper OriginExternal link, the smart, hand-guided CNC router, you combine precise work with maximum freedom. Whether furniture part, inlay or decorative element - you will learn how to prepare your ideas digitally and bring them directly into the wood.

Summer Holiday Workshops 2025

In the last week of the Thuringian summer holidays (4 to 8 August), we are offering two separate holiday workshops. Both workshops will take place one after the other every morning from 9-12 am.

• Creative Crafting with Devices
  Every day we will try out a different machine (3D printer, laser cutter, embroidery machine, etc.) from the Makerspace and work on various minor projects. It will be colourful and creative! (from 6th grade)
• Game Development mit Godot
  We are going to pend a whole week developing a computer game in the professional game engine Godot. We learn all the steps from the concept, creation of assets and programming of the game logic. You decide with your ideas what the end result will be! (from 8th grade)
