The Abbe Center of Photonics (ACP) and the Abbe School of Photonics (ASP) permanently offer excellent opportunities to achieve academic careers at every degree.

The Abbe Center of Photonics (ACP) and the Abbe School of Photonics (ASP) permanently offer excellent opportunities to achieve academic careers at every degree (Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degrees). Currently, more than 300 doctoral researchers are educated in ASP's doctoral program. At times, open positions for doctoral studies will be advertised here. ASP offers strong support to acquire postgraduate funding. In addition, a number of open research and teaching positions will be filled following the selection of appropriate candidates.

Please follow the instructions by the most recent calls. Moreover, unsolicited applications are be submitted at any time via our Online Application System.

1 scientific manager (PhD or postdoc) for the Graduate School "Jena Alliance Life in Focus - A Carl Zeiss Foundation Project" at the Office of the Vice President for Young Researchers and Diversity Management (published August 2019)

The project is centered around a joint graduate school of the Abbe School of Photonics, the Jena School of Microbial Communication and Jena School of Molecular Medicine. Together, they form the Jena Alliance Life in Focus at the interface of our University's profile lines LIGHT and LIFE. The application deadline is September 23, 2019. More details can be found in the original announcement.

2 researcher (PhD or postdoc) positions in the frame of the ERC Advanced Grant "SALT" in laser physics (published August 2019)

The positions  will be in the group of Prof. Jens Limpert at the Insitute of Applied Physics on "Performance Scaling of Ultrafast Thulium-doped fiber lasers" and "Frequency conversion of long-wavelength ultrafst lasers". Application deadline is August 31, 2019. Find more details here.

More than 5 doctoral researcher (PhD) positions within the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1375 "NOA - Nonlinear Optics on Atomic scales" (updated August 2019)

The recently installed and DFG-funded CRC 1375 NOA will focus on exploring fundamental nonlinear processes of light matter interaction in low-dimensional nanostructures, such as atomically thin layers, nanoparticles and -wires, nanostructured surfaces and molecular assemblies. The CRC team further wants to explore quantum phenomena as light-induced tunneling of electrons through metallic nanogaps and field-driven carrier acceleration in plasmonic nanostructures, atomic lattices and 2D-materials and construct new subwavelength-scale materials with tailored high nonlinearity for optical switching and frequency conversion by stacking atomically thin amorphous or crystalline films and employing deep subwavelength field enhancement utilizing nanostructures. NOA is still open for unsolicited applications from highly motivated students concerning doctoral researcher (PhD) positions, to start as early as possible. For further details, please review www.noa.uni-jena.de. The still-open positions are detailed at www.noa.uni-jena.de/Open+positions.
