The new research and teaching building Abbe Center of Photonics, efficiently under construction since the end of 2013, is approaching the finishing straight. The main works concerning the functionalization of the highly complex and yet fashionable building, visible in the video below, are almost finished.
The Abbe Center of Photonics is designed by the Architect's Office HENN, and, starting from 2016, will host more than 90 scientists from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. It will offer 2600 m² space for functionalized optical, biological and chemical labs, seminar rooms, offices and an auditorium. In particular, the new research site will offer a strategic and integrative platform for interdisciplinary exchange within the main ACP research areas by hosting laboratories for joint research performed by ACP's principal scientists. Furthermore, the new building will allow for the enhanced integration of ACP's photonics educational programs into its research program, making it accessible for undergraduate and graduate students.
The building is being funded by the State of Thuringia and the German federal government with more than 25 million Euro.
