The Abbe Center of Photonics (ACP) is always interested in attracting highly qualified scientists and scholars from abroad. Naturally, many of these scientists perform their research only for a limited period of time at ACP. After their local engagement, they become "research alumni" by continuing their scientific career in their home or another country.
The ACP searches to establish stronger bonds with its alumni, both on a personal and on an institutional basis. Accordingly, the Center developed a strategy to promote its alumni's careers abroad and to render them life-long ACP ambassadors. Now this concept has won one out of eight grants worth 30 000 € from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The ACP research alumni program, starting in October 2013, features a multitude of mutual benefits and will help to strengthen and to enlarge the ACP scientific network. A selected number of current ACP scientists of foreign origin will be invited to join a dedicated German Alumni Conference organized by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation from 27-29 November 2013 in Berlin.
