From 20th to 25th September 2013, the ACP together with three leading Canadian research institutions carried out a binational German-Canadian workshop series. The workshops were held consecutively at the INRS (Institut national de la recherché scientifique) in Varelles/Montréal, at the COPL (Centre d’optique, photonique et laser , Université Laval) in Québec City and at the University of Toronto. Altogether six ACP principal scientists presented and discussed their latest achievements as well as future work with their Canadian colleagues and were offered insight into the research thrusts and facilities of the host institutions. Scientific topics under discussion were high power fiber & solid state lasers, laser material processing, ultrafast optics, optical sensing, biophotonics, nanophotonics, nonlinear optics, quantum optics communication.
The overall aims of the workshop series were to elaborate the potential of prospective topics which either side would be unable to disclose on its own as well as the common application in large-scale funding schemes on international postgraduate education. Both sides agreed that these roads should be pursued in the near future. The ACP gratefully acknowledges the workshops’ funding from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
