On 14 December 2012, the principal investigators of the Abbe Center of Photonics gathered to hold their annual meeting at the Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Optics and Fine Mechanics in Jena. The meeting was organized by the board of directors who reported on the center's activities and achievements in 2012. Among them, the operation of the ACP offices and the latest preparatory steps for the construction of the new ACP research building, both located at the Beutenberg campus, were reviewed. The meeting participants discussed the progress and prospects of their running research initiatives in optics and photonics, and were informed on the latest numbers and adjustments of the Master and doctoral programs within the Abbe School of Photonics. Moreover, binding rules of internal ACP procedures as well as the statutes of the new ACP advisory board were approved by all participants.
Putting focus on the future of the ACP, a vivid discussion on the important role of research and education on optics and photonics within the strategic profile of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena evolved. Giving a clear statement to support and strengthen this branch of science in Jena, the ACP scientists developed an agenda to run future interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects.
