Meeting of the ACP advisory board

On November 14, 2019, the fourth meeting of the ACP advisory board took place in Jena. The advisory board was newly appointed in the beginning of 2019 by the President of the Friedrich Schiller University, Prof. Walter Rosenthal, acting for a period of three years. The board's primary role is to assist the ACP directors in the development of their management strategy future and to ensure that the proposed goals and achievements are consistent with the strategic plan. The board further serves as a vehicle for strengthening linkages between academia, industry, government and community. Prof. Günther Tränkle (Director of the Ferdinand-Braun-Institute, Berlin) has been re-electred as spokesperson of the advisory board for the 3-year-period. Likewise, representatives from science, industry, and from the Thuringian Ministry of Economy, Science and digital Society (TMWWDG), as well as the University's vice-president for research are offering their view and perspective within the board.

At the meeting, the center's scientific profile and future role was comprehensively investigated. Special focus was placed on the ACP's vision and future goals defined by its roadmap "ACP2020 - agenda for excellent photonics", the establishment of quantum technologies as one of the emerging key photonics research areas in Jena, as well as ASP's inherent concept of installing junior research groups to flexibly identify and tackle new fields of research. Emphasis was also put on the ACP research building at the Beutenberg campus, its usage and the consecutive demands for infrastructure and staff support. The advisory board will formulate statements and suggestions directed to the president of the Friedrich Schiller University.
