INTERDISCIPLINARY SCHOOL ON CLINICAL BIOPHOTONICS

From March 18 - 21, 2014 the Interdisciplinary School on Clinical Biophotonics will be held in Jena. The School addresses students and academics from the fields of physics, natural science and medicine as well as medical users. It offers a new approach towards interdisciplinary learning in Biophotonics and exhibits the latest developments in this fastly growing field of science.

The research and development of biophotonic solutions require an interdisciplinary teaching approach. The Interdisciplinary School on Clinical Biophotonics will bring together students and academics from all relevant scientific fields. The School is supported by the Jena University Hospital, the Abbe Center of Photonics, and the Carl Zeiss fund. It is organized by the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology in cooperation with the European Network of Excellence for Biophotonics Photonics4Life.

Biophotonics, as one of ACP's key research areas, comprises optical technologies and applications in medicine and life sciences, e. g. microscopy and spectroscopy, point- of-care-technology or the use of light as laser tool for surgery or cytology. Its application fields are clinical diagnostics, environmental or food safety as well as basic research with life science. Photonics4Life is the European Network of Excellence for Biophotonics. 13 top-of-the-line research institutes as well as industrial partners have joined forces to tap the existing potentials and develop new opportunities of Biophotonics. The Network was funded by the European Commission within the 7th Framework Programme.
