Institute of Photonic Technology selected for Leibniz Association

The German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) has decided on the outstanding importance of the Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT) in the field of optical technologies for the life sciences, medicine and the environment. Thus, the IPHT will become a member of the Leibniz Association. This secures major research resources by receiving joint funding from the German Federal Government and the State of Thueringia.

"The German Council of Science and Humanities underlines the excellent and world-acclaimed research of the institute on biophotonics, fiber optics, and photonic detection," says IPHT's scientific director and ACP's executive director Prof. Jürgen Popp in a first reaction.

Being associated to the Abbe Center of Photonics, the Institute of Photonic Technology is the largest non-university research institution of the State of Thuringia. More than 300 employees at the institute develop the scientific basis for photonic processes and systems that address issues in the areas of life and environmental sciences, as well as medicine.
