On 26 April 2013, the first meeting of the ACP advisory board took place at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. The advisory board had been recently commissioned by Prof. Klaus Dicke, the Rector of the FSU Jena. The board's primary role is to assist the ACP directors in the development of a management strategy and vision for the future, ensure that the proposed goals and achievements are consistent with the strategic plan, and serve as a vehicle for strengthening linkages between academia, industry, government and community. The board members defined their function as a collective task and elected Prof. Günther Tränkle (Director of the Ferdinand-Braun-Institute in Berlin) as their representing speaker. During the meeting, which was also attended by Dr. Hans Eggers from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as well as by the deans of the faculties the ACP is built on, the center's present and future role was comprehensively investigated. Special focus was laid on the future challenges and opportunities of the Abbe School of Photonics. The advisory board will forward its concluding statements and suggestions to the ACP directors shortly. The next meeting is foreseen for the second half of of 2014.
