On March 18, 2015, ACP's principal scientists gathered to hold their annual meeting at the Fraunhofer IOF in Jena. Beside the ACP members, also the Vice-Rector for Research and dean of the Faculty for Biology and Pharmacy were among the attendants.

The meeting was called in by the board of directors who reported on the center's activities and achievements during the last year. 2014 was a lively one, with plenty of scientific outreach and networking events such as the Interdisciplinary School on Clinical Biophotonics (in March), the International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy (ICORS, in August), the ACP-CUDOS photonics workshop, the topping-out ceremony of the new ACP research building, and the first ACP retreat (all in September), the International Symposium on Nanophotonics, the Doctoral School on Photonic Nanomaterials, and, last but not least, the ACP Photonics and Physics Alumni workshop (all in November.) As another cornerstone, the agenda "ACP2020", which will be funded with up to EUR 3.9 million within Thuringia's ProExcellence strategy 2014 - 2019, was discussed. This agenda exhibits a roadmap for ACP's future research, teaching and internationalization directions. Within this program, the center has now established an internal competitive research scheme called "ACP Explore", for which only ACP principal scientists are eligible. In this scheme, small to medium research projects with a high level of innovation and risk, strategic importance as well as an outstanding potential to promote scientific networking, are funded with up to EUR 100,000 each. The first ACP Explore project has already started, and the next call will be issued by April 2015.

ACP executive director Thomas Pertsch also announced that, due to very positive feedback of the first edition, another ACP retreat will be organized on September 14 and 15, 2015 at a regional conference site. On this occasion, focus will be put on fostering and specifying the scientific activities and collaborative research projects for the years to come. All ACP members are cordially invited to save this date.
